Microsoft Announces Release Date For Windows XP Service Pack 1
Microsoft has announced that on September 9, 2002, it will release Service
Pack 1 for Windows XP operating system. Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1)
adds new security measures, patches software problems, and complies with
the Federal consent decree entered into between Microsoft and the U.S.
Department of Justice to make parts of the software removable and separate.
Microsoft claims that SP1 contains all security updates, which are part of
Microsoft's "Trustworthy Computing" initiative. SP1 will allow removal of
Internet Explorer browser and Windows Media Player, as well as several other programs.
